Throwback Wedding
Throwback Wedding
Sep 25, 2014
On this day, September 25th, 1954 actress and style icon Audrey Hepburn tied the knot with fellow actor Mel Ferrer. Though the marriage ended years later, the style endures giving me the perfect topic for our Throwback Thursday.
There is so much to say about this wedding photo, and so much to say about Hepburn when it comes to matters of style. Style icon hardly covers her influence on fashion. She could do so much with so little like a black turtleneck and a pair of black cropped pants and here is no different; this gown isn't bedazzled, it isn't revealing, but it is very memorable. Her style is the obvious result of editing fashion down to its smallest elements. She is exquisite in this tea-length gown. Delicate, sophisticated, demure. She carries herself and her fashion so well. Oh, what I wouldnt give to be able to wear a crown of fresh flowers and look so good doing it. And I cannot get over the high collar and the way it works with her cropped hair.
Its hard to know just how many Audrey Hepburn-esque weddings this photo and others like it have spawned, but it is certainly a look that brides are after and will continue to seek for years to come. Imagine having the ability to look so flawless. Imagine every line and angle of your gown seemingly inspired by the gentle cat-eye sweep of your eyeliner. Every delicate detail draws the eye up to her serene face with those cheekbones to kill for.
What is hard to imagine is looking quite as good as she does here, but thats no reason not to try. The inspiration this photo provides should be embraced. Go out and try a crown of fresh flowers. Try on an A-line gown. Try sleeves and gloves. Spend a great deal of time and effort and with a little elbow grease you might be able to achieve something so all together effortless.
