Look Who’s Here

Posted by on Apr 8, 2015 in Blog

The stock in our salon is constantly changing as we get new gowns in, and one of the most helpful things we can do for our brides is alert them to what those new gowns are. Finding the perfect gown can take a lot of work, and even if you find your dream gown online it can be difficult to find it in-store. That’s why we are making more of an effort to showcase our new gowns and help brides get to know what is available.     To start things off I would like to introduce you to this Augusta Jones gown, Jo. This gown features a scoop neckline, illusion lace sleeves, and a low back with lace applique detail. The long sleeves and high neck give the gown a demure air that make the sheer low back all the more surprising and enticing. The gown is a perfect blend of vintage and modern, of simple and extravagant, and of modest and spunky.  ...

Spring is in the Air

Posted by on Apr 2, 2015 in Blog

I don’t want to jinx it because you never know what cold weather could be lurking around the corner, but I’m pretty sure that spring has arrived. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and slowly we are beginning to peel off our layers of wool sweaters. Yes, spring is here and with it comes all the delights of spring weddings. Flowers begin to bloom and DC becomes one giant cherry blossom engagement photo session. There is so much to love about the change of season and what it means for weddings.   Floral Patterns   I’m a lover of pattern, and I tend to think you can work it in whenever and wherever you like, but floral patterns in springtime are just a no-brainer. There are so many opportunities to incorporate floral patterns in a subtle way or a big way, depending on your preference. An easy place to incorporate floral patterns is on the table. Think of floral napkins dotting the table as a nice accent. Or think bigger and cover each table in a floral tablecloth with simple white centerpieces to balance the effect.     The Outdoors   Whether it’s the ceremony itself or the cocktail hour, it’s nice to incorporate some of the great outdoors in your big day. The weather is always a risk, but as long as it holds (and you have a backup plan) it is so nice to be out in the open air. The outdoors provides great photo opportunities, great natural light, and a relaxed and informal atmosphere that help guests to mingle. Besides, how cute does a garden cocktail party sound? Pretty cute.     Plants and Seeds   Weddings involve so many tiny little details and in order to plan all of them sometimes it is helpful to use the season as inspiration. So if you have a spring weeding and you need favor or escort card or place card ideas look no further than potted plants or packets of seeds with a cute card attached. They look pretty and they make for favors that your guests might actually get use out of.  ...

Adorable Dessert Options

Posted by on Mar 26, 2015 in Blog

French macarons are undeniably one of the most adorable current wedding trends. The color and flavor combinations are endless, and the display opportunities are enough to make any avid instagram-er swoon. No one single food item will up the ante of your wedding quite like a cascading display of little pastel French macarons will. But they can be expensive, and are notoriously finicky to try to bake on your own. They are also a luxury. You don’t need them on your dessert table, but boy do you want them.   Ok, so what really makes these little guys so desirable? The size for sure. They are a tiny little sandwich! And then there are the colors; we are all suckers for bright colors. It’s also a huge trend, and as couples are planning their weddings they can certainly be made to feel that they must succumb to certain trends. Understandable, but French macarons are not the only dessert capable of bringing cuteness to the table.   Lemon Poppy seed Linzer Cookies   Or really any Linzer cookie. They have the tiny little sandwich factor covered and they can likewise be made in a variety of flavors. You can also play around with their shape and the shape of the cutout on top allowing you to make it personal to you and your wedding. I love the brightness of the lemon filling here and the detail of the poppy seeds. They give off a perfect rustic charm and the dusting of powdered sugar adds a little whimsy, too.     Shortbread   Shortbread cookies are in many ways the opposite of a luxury dessert. They only take three ingredients to make and at first glance they look a bit on the plain side, but they can really serve as a blank canvas. They are a slightly more sophisticated version of a sugar cookie, after all, British people eat them at teatime, but they offer the same opportunity as the sugar cookie to embellish. You can make them in any color and shape you want and you can indent them with patterns, your initials, or the date of your wedding.  ...

Wedding Advice From Lauren Conrad

Posted by on Mar 25, 2015 in Blog

It’s safe to say there is no shortage of wedding advice available in magazines or on the internet. I run across wedding advice a dozen times a day and sometimes I even dispense a little of it myself. But with all the friendly advice piling up it can be hard to glean anything useful from it. It tends to be very similar. It espouses being yourself and being diplomatic and throws in a hint of traditional etiquette when all else fails.   But! Yesterday I found something that I thought was innovative and worth passing along. I’m only slightly embarrassed to say that it came from former reality start turned fashion mogul, Lauren “LC” Conrad. Ok, so her clothes are pretty cute and since she just planned her own wedding she can at least speak from experience.   She came across a lot of guests who were concerned about what to wear to the wedding. This is a common concern. Guests want to make sure that they look appropriate, that they don’t clash with the theme, and most importantly, for the ladies, they want to make sure they don’t match the bridesmaids. Conrad’s solution was to create an inspiration board (presumably on Pinterest) where she could leave a color palette and details that gave off the general vibe of the wedding.   Now of course you don’t want to dictate what people wear, but if you create a beachy inspiration board with sundresses and Bermuda shorts then it will help guests get the picture. Likewise if you pin pictures of your gorgeous ballroom reception site and black tuxes and sequined evening gowns, guests will better know how to dress.     I created a quick little board just to give you and idea of the possibilities. I think this little trick has so much potential to not only help make sure your wedding vision is complete, but it also adds another level of interaction with your guests. By creating a board and reveling some of the details ahead of time, like the color of the bridesmaid dresses, you are allowing your guests in on a little secret. It will...

Technology & Your Wedding

Posted by on Mar 23, 2015 in Blog

In case you haven’t noticed, technology is amazing. It’s hard to imagine planning a wedding without Pinterest or passing along pertinent information to guests without using a website. Technology has revolutionized planning weddings. It has made it possible to customize everything imaginable and include friends and family from all over the country and globe in your big day. Over the weekend a friend introduced me to Appy Couple, and the more I look into the app the more I realize that technology is just getting started.     If you are planning a wedding and haven’t checked out a wedding app such as Appy Couple then you definitely take a look. Essentially Appy Couple is a wedding website. It’s fully customizable and features an app component that guests can download in their app store and access with a wedding code you provide them.   It provides guests with all the information of a wedding website with the convenience of an app. For the couple it makes updating and adding information quick and easy. You can mange the guest list, get helpful planning tips, and add lots of custom details.   But the real reason to use a wedding app is the sharing capability. Guests can open their camera in the app and automatically share the photos they take on the live stream feature. It’s the tech savvy equivalent of a disposable camera on every table, and it allows all the action of the wedding to be captured by each guest’s individual perspective. Love it.  ...

Vegas Style

Posted by on Mar 19, 2015 in Blog

Since on this day in 1931 the state of Nevada legalized gambling it makes for a perfect day to talk about how to throw a weekend Vegas wedding. If you are deep into wedding planning then I’m sure elopement has crossed your mind once or twice as you have struggled to pick out the right color napkins or wrangle in family members to RSVP or dealt with dozens of other headaches that pop up. Yeah, you’ve thought about it. Of course now people have full-blown destination weddings at Vegas with all the usual wedding traditions and the whole nine yards, but if you want the true weekend getaway elopement experience here is what you have to have.   Elvis Elvis at a Vegas wedding has transcended from being cliché to being an absolute necessity. If you’re going to the trouble of running off to Vegas and eloping in a little chapel then you just have to have at least one pic with the King. And what a pic it would be! Maybe you’ll even get a song or two. I can already hear “Can’t Help Falling in Love” playing.   A Tattoo Somebody has got to get a tattoo. You could make it a temporary one, but if you really want to commit to the spontaneity and the carpe diem spirit that encapsulates Vegas, then at least one of you has got to get inked. Just remember that doesn’t have to mean matching tattoos.   Photos in the Desert Whether you wear a long bridal gown or a short cocktail dress the photos of you and your fiancé with the sprawling desert as the backdrop will be drop dead gorgeous. The starkness of the desert contrasted with the lavishness of your dress, of your flowers, of the sheer joy you’ll bring to the scene. And just you wait until the sun starts to set and all the colors of the sky come out to play.   A Convertible Ideally it would be a classic pink Cadillac, but if that’s too hard to find, or too kitsch, then at least get yourself a convertible and drive with the top...
