First Dance Fridays

Posted by on Apr 4, 2014 in Blog

The Aspidistra Flies – Stars For this Friday we bring you a pretty obscure song not well known out of hip Indie circles, perhaps because of its title, but it is too beautiful a song to stay hidden away. So picture this: The room is dark except for a few tea lights sprinkled around tables. The guests wait patiently in their seats around the dance floor. All of a sudden white lights begin twinkling from floor to ceiling. The room is aglow in shimmering twinkling lights, and then a piano starts to play. The music drifts across the dance floor as the couple emerges, and a soft sweet voice proclaims All the umbrellas in London couldn’t hide my love for you. It’s magical. The music rolls across the dance floor like a summer storm, and the couple is wrapped up in one another, cheek to cheek. All the umbrellas in London couldn’t hide my love for you. Not a dry eye in the place. Hands down....

First Dance Fridays

Posted by on Mar 28, 2014 in Blog

Welcome to First Dance Fridays where we will try to provide you with one new first dance option each week. Our goal is to provide you with unexpected new options, or to make a case for the classics that seem at times overplayed. So let’s start things off with a newer less-expected song. Best Day of My Life – American Authors This is not the necessarily the song for a black tie wedding in a historic marble ballroom, but it is the song for the couple that wants to have fun. And that’s what a first dance should be above all else. Fun. It isn’t a romantic slow dance song, but American Authors offer the newlyweds the chance to revel, to celebrate, to show not just the depth of their love, but also the sheer joy of it. It doesn’t matter if they can or can’t dance. It doesn’t matter if they look coordinated or off-beat.  A first dance like this says that love can’t be contained, and you just gotta dance. So if you just want to dance and have fun and have the best day of your life, give this one a try....

Dress of the Week from Reem Acra

Posted by on Mar 24, 2014 in Blog

This beaded chiffon Reem Acra gown is known as Goddess and it’s easy to see why.  It’s ethereal. Heavenly. Breathtaking. Romantic. The list goes on and on. It is instantly striking with its simple silhouette balanced by the drama of the beaded illusion neckline.  The intricacy of the pattern and the attention to detail in the back makes it a gown that demands to be noticed. It lends itself easily to many varieties of venues, tones and tastes. And it is here just waiting for you to bring it to...

Betsy Bride Spotlight

On October 11, 2013 at Prallsville Mill in Stockton, New Jersey Bridget Jennings and Matthew Fox were married in a beautiful ceremony that captured the spirit of their love and their personalities. We wish we could attend every wedding, but since we can’t, we are so glad that Bridget took the time to sit down and give us all the details of her happy day. How did you and your fiance meet? Matt and I met in Philadelphia, PA sharing mutual social circles and sideways glances. How long have you been together? April 4th will be our 5 year anniversary! How did you choose your wedding dress? I was shopping with a friend and really wanted to try on a strapless tea-length dress by Matthew Christopher. It just so happened that there was a Matthew Christopher trunk show that weekend and the designer himself put me in the dress I ultimately decided on. It was an amazing experience, and the dress fit every aspect of my personality. What was your favorite thing about planning a wedding? My favorite thing about planning a wedding was, as strange as this sounds, focusing on the details. At first it was extremely overwhelming to think of all the little things that needed to get, done but I loved seeing everything come together the day of the wedding.  Your least favorite? My least favorite was doing the seating arrangements and deciding who was going to be invited. We wanted to keep it relatively small, but Matt and I are the first to be married out of both families and so many people wanted to celebrate with us. In the end I was happy with the amount of people we invited. We were surrounded by friends and family who love us very much. What made your wedding unique? My parents are extremely talented people and they wanted to have a wedding that was true to our personalities. They crafted banners that were screen printed with our cartoon faces. We decided to forgo the traditional wedding party and just had Matt’s brothers (and my brother) stand with him, and I had a Maid of Honor...

National Cookie Day

National Cookie Day

Posted by on Dec 4, 2013 in Blog

Today is National Cookie Day, and it is the perfect day to eat something sweet and do something sweet, too. That’s why for the second year in a row the staff at Betsy Robinson’s got together for a cookie swap. Each participant baked up a few dozen of their best cookies and brought them in to share. The result was nearly 700 cookies in more than a dozen sumptuous varieties: chocolate chip, oatmeal, double chocolate chip, red velvet, lemon and on and on. But even better than the cookies was the $1 donation made by Glad for every cookie baked. The proceeds benefit pediatric cancer research and treatment, and it was so great to be a part of the fundraiser. As we begin the holiday season we wish everyone happy baking, and encourage them to host a cookie swap of their...

On September 7th Kelly Sample and John Newby were married at the Floral Showhouse in Niagara Falls, Canada. Surrounded by friends and family and the majesty of the falls these two had the wedding of their dreams. We couldn’t be happier for the couple, and we are grateful to get the inside scoop on their big day along with some sneak peek pictures from photographer Joseph Vetrone. How did you and your fiance meet? We met through mutual friends. We were immediately inseparable. He demanded dinner, and that was it. What made you pick your wedding gown? After being engaged for 3 days, my fiancé came home with a few bridal magazines. I turned to the dress, and there was no turning back. To this day, I haven’t seen a dress I love like mine. You got to meet the designer of your dress, Matthew Christopher, right? How did that feel? I felt like a queen, like the only bride in the store when I first walked in. I tried on other dresses first, and then couldn’t wait to try on my dress. I knew it was the one, no question. Matthew called the shop to talk to me, and it made the experience completely surreal. After reading about him, and envying his work, talking to him, and buying his dress felt like a dream come true. Describe your wedding in 5 words. Love. Surreal. Majestic. Fairytale. Perfect. What was the best part of your wedding? When I saw my groom see me- that’s why it was so important to look and feel my best. I got the reaction every bride dreams of. What’s the best piece of advice you got that you would like to pass along? The day will fly. Your head will spin. Try to enjoy the process, and realize that the most important thing is marrying your soul mate. At the end of the day, if that is a success, then so is your wedding. That is all that will matter to you, to him, and to all your...
